MY PERFECT RESUME BRAND OBJECTIVE: To help less experienced jobseekers write a perfect resume using step-by-step guidance.

My Perfect Resume is the best place for jobseekers to make customized work documents.

Target Audience:

50% no college, 51% student/entry level job-seekers, 60% born after 1982 “millennials”, 60% earn less than $32K.

More inexperienced or ‘rusty’ with applying for jobs and lack confidence in their ability to create a professional-looking resume.

UPDATE: HTML NO LONGER REQUIRED FOR THESE PAGES!
Job seeker is now 2 words!
Do not capitalize “To” in titles, even if it is an infinitive.

Do NOT cite The Muse anymore!

My Perfect Resume Brand Tone/Voice:

Use first-person. Friendly and approachable, but still informative. Builds confidence. Readers are NOT on a job “search” – they have found a job to apply for and are now focused on submitting an application that includes a resume!

 • Casual language as if they are talking to a coworker.
 • Conversational but not sloppy.
 • Friendly but not long-winded.
 • Primarily first-person voice but use other voices when necessary.
 • Sense of perfection
 • Key terms to use AT LEAST ONCE IN THE CONTENT – perfect, best, first-in-class

“My Perfect Resume” should always have spaces between the words.

KEYWORDS

Each brief will have several lists of keywords. YOU MUST CHECK THAT THE PRIMARY/SECONDARY KEYWORDS ARE USED THE LISTED NUMBER OF TIMES IN THE BRIEF.

 • Content MUST include the Primary, secondary the listed number of times. If no number is listed, try to use these keywords once every 100 words or so. Some keywords may overlap, so check that EACH keyword appears the listed number of times (example: “cover letter” does not count in “cover letter templates” if both cover letter and cover letter templates are keywords on the list).
 • “Recommended” and “Additional” keywords do NOT have to appear in the content, but try to use them naturally where you can.
 • All keywords should be used naturally – please do not force them. If they won’t fit naturally into the content, it is okay to not use them.
 • Please fix any spelling/grammar errors in the keywords.

Do’s and Don’ts

 • BE CONCISE and to the point. There should be NO fluff wording in these.
 • Please use the Oxford (serial) comma.
 • Use active voiceNO passive voice! Use this free grammar checker.
 • All content must be at an 8th-grade reading level (NOT higher). You can use Hemingwayapp.com (the free grammar checker) to help check for reading level.
 • Voice MUST MATCH the brand voice as shown in the Example.
 • Don’t use “OK.” Please spell out the word “okay.”
 • Don’t write the word “percent.” Use the symbol “%” instead.
 • If a job title is listed, the information MUST BE SPECIFIC TO THAT JOB TITLE. It cannot be general information that applies to any and every job, it must be very, very, VERY specific (use O*NET and Indeed to research specifics for any job title).
 • Please include 1 or 2 high-value internal links to any of BOLD’s brands (My Perfect Resume, LiveCareer, Resume-Now, ResumeBuilder, HLoom).
 • Include 1 or 2 high-value links to a well-researched external site. BOLD prefers domains that end with .gov, .edu, or .org, but newspapers and job-related sites work well if the content is reputable.

IMPORTANT TERMS TO UNDERSTAND:

 • Resume format refers to how a jobseeker organizes information in a resume. There are three main resume formats: chronological, functional, and hybrid
 • Resume file format refers to how your resume is saved, i.e. in a Word doc, as a PDF, or as simple text (.txt)
 • Resume samples and examples refer to pre-made resumes that MPR users can study to get ideas for what to include in their own resume. Samples can be found here. Examples can be found here.

Follow the detailed directions in the brief. If you have ANY questions or are unsure about some instructions, please email Britainy at [email protected]

Follow these steps to help ensure your content makes sense and is following brand voice guidelines:

 1. Create a Table of Contents-TOC/H1 – This is the guide for the reader. Are the TOC and headers matching?
 2. Does the TOC make sense  – Does each TOC make sense to someone coming to the page cold. Is the page ordered correctly in terms of at the top should be the most valuable content that answers search intent – information the reader is looking for.
 3. Are the TOCs creative/compelling –  They must be clear, answer intent and encourage the reader to click on them. There is a balance here  – sometimes plain and to the point is best. We also need to be consistent on sections readers will find on all pages, such as FAQs headers and other standing sections. No need to rename these sections from page-to-page.
 4. Is the page content on-brand – Refer to the brand guide for tone, key messaging and brand word usage. For instance, the word “Perfect” is only used with My Perfect Resume.
 5. Intros should match intent/page expectations –  Intros need to actually intro what the reader is about to read
 6. Content under the H1s has to reflect the H1s – The content must repeat the H1 and provide insight on the subject matter.
 7. Would the page pass the “send a friend” reference test – Would the executive leadership team send a relative or friend to this page for this topic or to a competitor page. If the answer is the latter – there is a problem.

Brand Brief – MPR Brand voice is highlighted in red.

5 Most Frequently Asked Questions About Cover Letters
Image is FPO
Text will fit into this module

<b>1. How do I make a universal cover letter for an entry level job with no experience?</b>

You can create a basic cover letter outline for an entry-level job with no experience, but do not make the mistake of thinking it is a “one size fits all” cover letter. It’s essential to tailor your cover letter for each specific job application. Describe your skill set using the language of the job description.

You can, however, choose a cover letter format, font, and a relevant skill or two that apply to your specific industry. Our cover letter tips can assist you in this task.

<b>2. What are cover letter samples?</b>

Cover letter samples provide guidance and inspiration as you write and format your own cover letter. My Perfect Cover Letter’s sample cover letters are proven to work and offers options for your job role, industry, and level of experience. Each sample showcases a suitable length, font type and size, and layout.

Our expert advice and real-world samples, can help you produce perfectly professional cover letters in minutes.

<b>3. How do I write a cover letter?</b>

First include your contact information, salutation, and introduction. Use this space to introduce yourself and begin a compelling argument as to why you’re a good fit for the role.

Then write your body paragraphs, conclusion, and sign-off. Here, you must share accomplishments, reiterate your claim, and use a professional sign-off (such as “Respectfully yours,” or “Sincerely”). Our samples take care of most of the hard work for you regarding each component. Use them to create your own unique letter.

Remember to proofread your finished work. Hiring managers will notice even a minor typo. The My Perfect Cover Letter Builder will help find and fix all errors in grammar and spelling. With the help of our professional cover letter samples and our cover letter builder, you can write a document that will compel a recruiter to consider your resume.

<b>4. Are cover letter samples addressed to whom it may concern?</b>

As our cover letter samples show, you should not use “To Whom It May Concern” in your salutation. It is far better to address the hiring manager by name. Writing a specific salutation instead of a generic one can boost interest in your candidacy. It shows that you put extra effort into your application.

Learn who to address in your letter by first looking at the job description. If it does not mention the person, research the company’s website. If you still have no luck, you can call the human resource department. As a last resort, you can write “Dear [Company Name].”

<b>5. What is a good format for a cover letter?</b>

Our samples exemplify the best formats for a professional cover letter. Only on rare occasions should your length exceed a single page. Stick to about four paragraphs. After your introductory paragraph, write one or two body paragraphs before crafting your brief conclusion and your sign-off.

Bullet points are acceptable, but steer clear of more elaborate formatting tools. Complex color schemes, borders, graphics, and shading only distract readers from the most important part of your letter: its content. Send this document in the body of an email or as a Microsoft Word or PDF attachment.

5 Frequently Asked Questions About Cover Letters
Image is FPO
Text will fit into this module

<b>How do I make a universal cover letter for an entry-level job with no experience?</b>

Start with an introductory paragraph to explain who you are, what position you wish to apply for, and how you discovered the opportunity. If a connection referred you, mention their name.

In your next paragraph, mention your relevant skill sets and accomplishments. Use the job description to help you write this part. You may not have job experience, but that doesn’t mean you’re not qualified for the role. Use this section to share your stellar talents. Expand on those you mentioned in your resume.

Wrap up the letter by reiterating why you’d be a great fit for the team. Thank the employer for his or her time and sign off with a handwritten signature.

<b>What are cover letter examples?</b>

Cover letter examples are what they sound like: sample cover letters that show best practices. Just like a resume example, a cover letter example provides a job seeker a template for creating the perfect cover letter. <b>Do cover letter examples use to whom it may concern?</b>

To whom to address your cover letter, that is the question. You should never use the generic phrases “To Whom It May Concern” or “Dear Sir or Madam” when writing your cover letter. Instead, use the hiring manager’s name if you know it. If you don’t, do your research. If you find a name, precede it with “Dear” or “Hello.” If you can’t find a name, address your letter to the company itself.

<b>What is a good format for a cover letter?</b>

Use a format similar to the ones you see in our cover letter examples. Here’s a basic format that works every time: start with your contact information on the left side of the page, add a salutation, write an introduction, craft one or two body paragraphs that argue why you’re great for the job, close by reiterating your interest in the job and thanking the employer for their time, and use a professional sign-off.

Professional babysitters do more than supervise children at play. Your resume must draw attention to training and skills, including CPR, behavior management, meal preparation, and curriculum development. Use our babysitter resume sample to create my resume.

According to Care.com, one in three parents will pay more for a babysitter with state certification in child care. 41% prefer sitters with an early education degree. Our babysitter resume sample shows you how to emphasize training.

Blade 2

Babysitter Resume Questions

1. What format should your babysitter resume be in?

Babysitters with advanced training, such as college degrees and continuing education certifications, can expect to get paid more per hour. Those with limited training and experience generally earn less. Naturally, the best format for your resume depends on your history. A successful babysitting career requires both training and experience. Your babysitter resume must reflect this, as in our babysitter resume sample.

If you have a combination of experience and education, choose the standard chronological format. Experience can include after-school volunteering or work as a camp counselor. You could also use a hybrid format that puts equal emphasis on both areas. If you don’t have much work experience, choose the functional resume. This type of template draws attention to things that make you a good babysitter, such as maintaining a safe environment and completion of a newborn child care course.

2. How do you write an objective statement for a babysitter resume?

An objective statement is best when you are writing your very first babysitter resume. This statement explains your aims for getting the job. Clearly describe your goals. You could talk about planning educational activities for special needs children or giving creative lessons for children in after-school settings. Include the job title you want and provide examples of ways you can benefit the employer.

If you already have babysitter experience, as the applicant in our babysitter resume sample, write a professional summary instead. Use this statement to show off your top babysitting qualifications. Good choices include planning age-appropriate outings or your willingness to accept flexible scheduling. This statement appears at the top of your resume, and there are many templates and tips to guide you through the creation of a statement with impact.

3. How many skills should you put on a babysitter resume?

The standard template for resumes calls for five to eight skills, listed in bullet points. You can list a few more or less, as in our babysitter resume sample. Rather than focusing on how many skills, improve the impact of your resume with the right skills.

According to industry experts, parents have specific expectations. Skills they want to see include feeding children, getting them to bed, and reading aloud. List active play and sports skills. Other examples of skills for your resume include familiarity with homework, use of positive reinforcement, and success in overseeing nap or bathing routines.

If you aren’t sure what to include, check the job description, parent requirements, and the babysitter resume sample. Of course, any first aid, CPR, and safety certifications fit in the skills section as well.

4. How do you make a babysitter resume for a first job?

We offer many resources for writing your first resume for babysitter jobs. Begin with the babysitter resume sample. Look for skills and experiences that match yours and use the sample to create a template for your own resume. Next, list all your experiences with children. Great examples include volunteer experiences and babysitting younger siblings. Tutoring children in after-school programs and coaching youth leagues are also good choices.

Think of what you’ve learned from previous babysitting experiences. Maybe you had unpaid summer babysitting jobs caring for a young relative. Did you prepare a meal or change diapers? Did you take part in a high school childcare course? Some classes cover daycare or housekeeping skills. Watching over younger brothers and sisters gives you work experience that you can describe in both your resume and your cover letter. Refer to our babysitter cover letter sample for more guidance.

5. Should you include references on a babysitter resume?

References don’t belong on your babysitter resume. They take up space that you need for relevant skills, certifications, and other qualifications. However, references are vital to parents and employers, so prepare a separate page of them.

Find previous employers willing to vouch for your honesty and cheerful demeanor. The ideal references can describe specific skills and qualifications. Choose employers who know your ability to prepare meals, plan outings, and maintain a safe, warm environment. Supervisors and parents who have seen you interact with children are good options.

Include the name of each reference, their title (if you worked at a daycare or other business setting,) phone number, and email address. Don’t include addresses, especially for personal homes. Do give a short description of your position (nanny, mother’s helper, or overnight babysitter,) and the length of time you worked for them.

Blade 3

Nanny

Nannies work directly with children. Duties may include driving children to school and after-school activities. You may help with homework, prepare meals, and do housekeeping.

Caregiver

Caregivers give professional help to children with disabilities, injuries, and illnesses. These professionals may provide companionship and administer medications. They bathe children and schedule appointments.

Blade 5

Skills for Your Babysitter Resume Sample

Applied Behavior Analysis training: Use ABA techniques to assist children in reducing challenging behaviors and increase life skills.

CPR, First Aid, AED Certification & Training: The courses cover basic first aid, CPR, and the use of automated external defibrillators.

List certifications in the education section of your babysitter resume. Because of their importance to babysitters, it’s also appropriate to mention them in the summary statement, skills section, or your cover letter. This is especially true if you have a college degree or specialized certification, such as teaching children on the autism spectrum.

Listing completed certification courses on your resume, as in our babysitter resume sample, draws more attention to your qualifications. The right training makes your resume stand out from other applications. It shows that you’re passionate about your work and that you have specific areas of expertise.

Be sure to list certifications and certificates correctly. A certification indicates experience, classroom education, and successful completion of an exam. Certificates show completion of coursework in a specific area.

Babysitter Job Search: Next Steps

Most parents report they’d pay more if babysitters asked. Use top skills, specialized training, and work experience to negotiate for a competitive salary.

Blade 8

7 Quick Tips for Negotiating Your New Salary

1. Research related salaries in your area.

The average rate for babysitters varies based on local costs of living and minimum wage laws in your community. Research social media sites such as Glassdoor and LinkedIn, look up studies, and use salary calculators to determine the best rate. This knowledge gives you a reasonable starting point specifically for babysitting negotiations. Having the information at hand reminds both parties that you’re serious about your work.

2. Organize your thoughts in writing to negotiate effectively.

If you don’t have experience negotiating, you can learn to do so. Use tips from experts, such as focusing on your college degree or specialized training to set you apart from other babysitters. Drawing attention to your strengths, such as a previous babysitting job and first aid training, helps employers understand your value. Put these facts in writing, so you can easily refer to them.

3. Establish an appropriate salary range.

Some babysitting jobs require you to be on-call and others offer a set schedule. Some positions require you to live within a certain distance or to drive children around. With average salaries in mind, consider your own cost of living, your transportation costs, and housing costs. Establish a pay range that is acceptable to you and should be acceptable to employers. Begin negotiations at the high end.

4. Negotiate respectfully for satisfactory terms.

Soft skills are vital in any babysitting position, so advocate for improvements while maintaining a positive rapport. Begin with casual conversation about the children or activities; get to know each other through open conversation. Address the value of your qualifications respectfully and approach a solution as partners. Listen carefully to the other person’s perspective and work together for a situation that benefits everyone.

5. Appreciate the value of full benefits.

Some employers offer full packages of benefits. These may include healthcare coverage, paid vacations, and regular bonuses. Don’t underestimate the value of those benefits during negotiations. Whether you’re caring for children as a personal assistant, daycare teacher, or nanny, healthcare insurance is often as valuable as the actual take-home pay.

6. Recognize when to conclude negotiations.

Work with the other party for a mutually beneficial situation. It’s essential to have a good relationship with parents or guardians when you’re responsible for the care of children. Relationships affect every part of those interactions. If you’re not sure about the offer, ask for time to review the terms in writing, but don’t take too long. If you do decide to accept the offer, your prompt and courteous response is vital.

7. Stick to your own expectations and know when to walk away.

Don’t accept lower pay offers to avoid offending a potential employer. Don’t settle for less because you think you’ll make a more favorable impression. This is especially true with children. Your ability to provide an appropriate environment depends on your satisfaction with your work. If you can’t work out an acceptable offer, decline politely. Any potential employer could have contact with others in the area, so don’t make a bad impression.

Part-Time Cashier Resume Questions

1. How should a part-time cashier resume look?

Resume writing starts with an effective format. Use the part-time cashier resume sample and templates to get an idea of what employers want to see from your document. Set everything up easily with the resume builder from My Perfect Resume.

The resume samples show you how to position each section of your one-page resume. Have your contact information head the top of your document. Begin with an eye-catching summary statement. Then, create a skills section with details related to food service or cash handling. Include some recommended general soft skills that well-rounded applicants demonstrate. Next, write a work experience section if you have prior jobs. Include each job title or volunteer experience from your past. Start with the most recent and go in reverse chronological order. Finally, end your resume with a section devoted to your academic credentials.

2. What are some tips for writing a no-experience resume for a cashier?

It’s common for part-time candidates to have no experience for a job. Getting hired as a cashier is a challenge if you don’t have experience, but it’s possible. For an entry-level resume for cashier jobs, you may need to rework your document’s format and scrap the traditional chronological templates. Look for cashier resume samples written in the functional format for help with this.

The functional templates organize your details in terms of skills instead of in a work experience section. Pinpoint essential skills from the cashier job description. You can also include other sought-after soft skills in this style of resume. Highlight a specific skill, such as communicating with customers, and give examples of your abilities from school, volunteer work, an internship placement, or community experiences. Use bullet points to organize all of your experiences and details to impress a potential employer.

3. What skills are necessary for a part-time cashier resume?

The career skills you need to use in your resume for a part-time cashier vary, depending on the type of job and the industry. Make a bulleted skills section in your resume with a combination of specific cashier skills and soft skills.

Cashiers generally work with money, greet customers, ring up products using a POS system, and more. Depending on the scope of the job, you may also want to include other competencies related to the type of store, like in our resume samples. For example, a barista cashier needs to also demonstrate knowledge of making espresso and other coffee drinks. A grocery store cashier has to have self-starter skills in customer check-out and product code knowledge. For most cashiers, it’s important to demonstrate punctuality, responsibility, maturity, excellent communication, customer service, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.

4. How do you demonstrate great customer service skills for a cashier’s resume?

A big part of a cashier’s job, no matter what type of store, is customer service. In many situations, customers go to the cashiers for help with the location of a product in the store or inventory questions. An effective cashier needs to show a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service at all times.

In resume samples and templates, show your ability to interact with people and keep customers satisfied and coming back. You can do this by including bullet points in your skills section and work history section that detail your experience working with people. Describe yourself as a friendly, service-oriented individual in your summary statement. List specific examples of your ability to greet customers with a smile and answer their questions happily. Include information about dealing with customer conflict calmly and effectively.

5. How do you show off excellent money-handling skills for a cashier resume?

Next, employers want to ensure their cashiers have the necessary capabilities to accurately handle money in a transaction. Cashiers typically use a POS or other cash drawer system to take payment and account for product or service sales. Cashier resume examples and templates stress strength with basic math skills, like arithmetic, statistics, or accounting. You should also list any experience running credit card transactions or taking check payments.

If you have previous cashier experience, cite examples of your accuracy with the drawer and cash handling in a fast-paced environment. It’s a good idea to include information about the average number of customers you scanned per hour or the amount of sales during your shift. All of this information helps job seekers show exactly what they’re capable of for a busy restaurant, retail store, or other location.

Certifications to Include in Your Part-Time Cashier Resume

POS Cashier Certification: Some POS systems offer basic cashier function certification training to demonstrate expertise.

Alcohol Seller Certification: For retail stores that sell alcohol, certifications exist that help ensure compliance with local and federal regulations.

Most cashier positions don’t require any specific types of certifications, but it’s sometimes helpful to have one to stand out to the hiring managers. Don’t confuse an earned certification with a certificate program. Certificate programs are part of a degree or career program and usually require a series of classes.

Earn a certification in a few hours or over a longer period of time related to some of the must-have cashier skills listed on the part-time cashier resume sample and templates. Whenever you earn a new certification, add it to your education section with your high school diploma. If you have an impressive certification, you may want to put it in your summary statement or skills section like in many resume examples.

Blade 7

Part-Time Cashier Job Search: Next Steps

After creating a perfect resume and cover letter from the part-time cashier resume sample, it’s job offer time. Here are tips to negotiate salaries.

Blade 8

7 Quick Tips for Negotiating Your New Salary

1. Study Negotiating Tactics

After you get a job offer for a cashier, don’t simply accept the first salary without doing some negotiating. In most cases, there’s some wiggle room with your initial salary offer for a part-time cashier position. Before accepting the job, study some ways to negotiate a salary. Then, talk to your hiring manager and explain why you feel entitled to a higher starting rate for cash register duties.

2. Prepare a Range

You’ll need to prepare yourself with a specific salary range for the part-time cashier job when discussing salary details as an employee. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median hourly rate for a cashier was $10.11 as of May 2017. Today, some states or local areas have passed $15 minimum wage laws, but for other regions, you may need to accept an hourly rate close to average.

3. Ask About Other Compensation

After setting up your hourly starting rate, ask about other compensation opportunities as a part-time cashier. Some food service places allow their cashiers to enjoy a free meal during their shift, so that may be a possibility. Retail stores may also have special discounts available on merchandise for part-time cashiers. Discuss this with hiring managers and then ask for perks, such as vacation days, bonuses, or benefits.

4. Be Professional

Salary negotiations are also more effective if you communicate in a professional and respectful way. When you arrive, dress professionally, as you did during your interview. During your talks, be ready to give examples of your strengths and skills, with details from the cashier resume sample or other templates. You may not get exactly what you want, but don’t let that deter you. Don’t take the negotiations personally.

5. Learn About Advancement Opportunities

It’s important to see the bigger picture when negotiating a job offer and salary. While it may seem like you don’t have much to negotiate besides your hourly rate when it comes to a part-time position as a cashier, there are potential opportunities in some cases. Ask employers about possible raises for those who perform at a high level. Look at advancement opportunities into management to make a decision.

6. Do Your Homework

Smart job seekers should also do plenty of research about salaries and benefits with the company as a whole. Landing a part-time cashier job for a major retailer means you’ll have more potential financial backing to access for a higher hourly rate. On the other hand, getting a job with a small, local business may not give you much in terms of a strong hourly rate.

7. Be Ready to Accept or Walk Away

Whatever happens, plan for an exit strategy if things don’t go well. Or, if you feel comfortable with an offer and any perks, accept it and start your new job. For those who walk away, it’s important to remember that there are many different part-time cashier jobs available in many fields. If this job isn’t the one, something out there is.
