We are educating jobseekers on how helpful resume samples and templates can be.

Target Audience:
People looking for careers/jobs in specific industries.

Understanding the spreadsheet.

The articles are arranged differently on the spreadsheet. Each article takes up to 6 rows. The ID # is in column C and the Industry in column D. Job titles for the specific industry are listed in column E. There is a link in column F for the industry as well as one for each job title.

Please write your articles using this Word template, which is designed to help you as you navigate the style guide: RN Resume Sample Template – Blank

The template includes five sections for job title resume samples. Only use as many as you actually have job titles for. Please delete any that will not be used. For instance, if you only have four job titles, you should only have four resume sample sections in your final document.

Be sure replace “[industry name]” with your assigned industry from column D of the spreadsheet. Also replace “[job title]” with the assigned job title from column E of the spreadsheet. Don’t forget to remove the brackets, but keep pipe characters.

Tone/Voice:

Informational/Helpful. Professional yet engaging tone.

Do’s and Don’ts

  • Please use the template provided: RN Resume Sample Template – Blank
  • Please use the Oxford (serial) comma.
  • Use active voiceNO passive voice! Use this or another free grammar checker to make sure there are no instances of passive voice.
  • For this client, “jobseeker” is one word.
  • Do not use the word “highlight.” Some readers take this literally and highlight portions of the resume, which is not appropriate. Instead, use phrases such as “illuminate,” “draw attention to,” and “point out.”
  • Don’t use “OK.” Please spell out the word “okay.”
  • Don’t write the word “percent.” Use the symbol “%” instead.
  • Please spellcheck for the word “manger” and change it to “manager.”

Be sure to link to a resume sample for each job title (Links are on the spreadsheet in column F next to the job title they go with) in the “More Information” section of each job title excerpt. Please embed the links according to instructions on the “HTML Format” tab of this style guide.

Refer to this online occupational outlook handbook (https://www.bls.gov/ooh/) for detailed information on each career.

*Be very careful to avoid self-duplication. These cannot be the same from one article you write to another. You must use unique words and also switch up the order of the information within paragraphs if you need to use similar information in a paragraph. Use the Compare feature in Word to check your articles against each other to help you avoid this.

Keywords and Word Counts Per Section:

Primary Keyword: “[Industry name] resume samples” with the assigned Industry from column D of the spreadsheet substituted for “[industry name].” Use title case in headers and lowercase in running text. Use the keyword as indicated below.

Eight times plus one time for each two job titles you are writing about.

Example:

  • 1-2 job titles, use the primary keyword a total of 9 times
  • 3-4 job titles, use the primary keyword a total of 10 times
  • 5-6 job titles, use the primary keyword a total of 11 times

Use Primary keyword in the Title, Meta Title, Meta Description, Introduction, and specific header. Put additional required uses naturally within the job title excerpts and the question sections. See examples.

Secondary Keywords:  “[job title] resume sample”

  • Use as a header for each [job title] excerpt.
  • In the More Information section, use the keyword once for each job title and link the appropriate resume sample to the keyword.

Word Count – Word count depends on the number of job titles listed for your industry. (You will be paid for the number of words listed on the spreadsheet, but please stay within the range for each section) The Title, Meta Title, and Meta Description do not figure into the word count. Main headers do not count for each section, but will be part of the overall word count. Here is the breakdown by number of job titles:

6 job titles range from 1450 – 1650
5 job titles range from 1300 – 1500
4 job titles range from 1150 – 1350
3 job titles range from 1000 – 1200
2 job titles range from 850 – 1050
1 job title ranges from 700 – 850

Please stay within ranges listed below for all sections.

  • |Title| – Keyword once
  • |Meta Title| – Keyword once
  • |Meta Description| – (approximately 155 characters incl./spaces) – Keyword once
  • |Introduction| (100-150 words) – Keyword once
  • |[Industry Name] Resume Samples|  Keyword once in header
  • |[Job Title] Resume Sample| (100-150 words each) – Primary keyword may be included in some of these excerpts. Secondary keyword once in each header
    • For:
    • Industry Skills To Include:
    • More Information:Secondary Keyword once for [job title] you are writing about.
  • Popular [Industry Name Resume Questions] – 500-550 words. Primary keyword may be used in this section to finish out the number of times you need it. Please do so naturally.

Format: Open accordion boxes below and follow specifics for each section.

Save as: ID # – [Industry Name] Resume Samples

Example:

1 – Nursing Resume Samples

Please put “BOLD – RN Industry Resume Samples” in the subject line of your submission email and send your article to [email protected].

Please include the HTML code within the document for the resume samples you are linking. It should look like this:

<a href=”URL you want to link to”>anchor text</a>

EXAMPLE:

Take a look at our <a href=”https://www.resume-now.com/templates/samples/restaurant/food-runner”>busser resume sample</a> for additional information.

Very Important: The quotation marks need to be straight quotes, rather than smart quotes.

If your Word default is set to use “curly” or “smart” quotes, sometimes you get a front quote at the end of your quote (or in this case, link) and vice versa. This causes the URL to be incorrect. Here is the way to correct the problem:

In Word, go to File, select Options and then Proofing, Click on AutoCorrect options.

Select the “AutoFormat As You Type” tab. The box next to – Replace as you type – “Straight quotes” with “smart quotes” may be checked – please uncheck this box. We only want the straight quotes, not the smart quotes.

You will need to select OK at the bottom of this screen and again on the proofing screen after this one disappears, to change the default. We want to use straight quotes because they are recognized at the beginning and end of the link in the HTML code. You need to fix the default and then retype the quote marks into your code

Very Important: Do not put spaces around the anchor text. Within the code, there should not be a space either before or after the anchor text. In other words, the pattern is like this:  <a href=“https://website you are linking to”>anchor text</a>. The problem is that if you have spaces within the code, the client gets double spaces when they post it. BOLD asked us to remove spaces from within the code.

|Popular Nursing Resume Questions|

1. What’s the best length for a nursing resume?

As with resumes from other industries, the optimal length for nursing resumes is one to two pages. If you are just starting out or only have a few years of experience, it is best to keep it to one page. Those with more extensive experience might find it necessary to go to two pages. Most hiring managers only spend a few seconds reviewing resumes, so you want to keep it concise. To see examples of ways in which to detail your qualifications without creating a lengthy document, review our nursing resume samples.

2. What should go in the experience section of my nursing resume?

The experience section of your resume details your relevant work history for the past 10 to 15 years.

Rather than just focusing on detailing your daily tasks, present your responsibilities as accomplishments. As a nurse, this might entail discussing your patient satisfaction score rather than just explaining that you provided basic patient care, like bathing and dressing patients. If you played a key role in implementing new procedures that improved patient care or results, make sure to include it in this section.

When covering these kinds of specifics about the job, try your best to attach metrics to your duties and achievements. For example, specify the number of beds in the facility. For more ideas, check out our nursing resume samples.

3. What should I do to make sure my nursing resume makes it past an ATS?

Many hospitals and other medical facilities rely on an Applicant Tracking System, or ATS, to screen resumes by looking for keywords in the document. To increase your chance of securing an interview, your document must make it past this initial screen and in front of the hiring manager.

To do this, look closely at the job description. You should be able to pick out the most important qualifications, skills, and duties. Tailor your resume to this information using the same keywords and phrases for the applicable information.

4. What’s the best way to list certifications on my nursing resume?

You can list your certifications and licenses in two ways. You can include them in your education section along with your degree, or you can create another section titled, “Certification and Licenses.”

The best way to do this depends on how many certifications and licenses you currently hold, as well as your education. Those with one degree and license might wish to combine them, while someone with several advanced degrees and/or specialty certifications might wish to separate them. You can see examples in our nursing resume samples.

5. How do you write a summary statement for a nursing resume?

Your summary statement acts as a 30-second marketing pitch where you explain to your prospective employer why you are the best candidate for the role. You want to keep it concise with just three sentences or bullet points that do not go beyond four to six lines.

Within this space, detail your years of experience and include two or three of your most valuable skills and your greatest accomplishments. It might help to review the job description and utilize some of the key duties and qualifications listed in your summary statement. Review our nursing resume samples for inspiration.

|Popular Restaurant Resume Questions|

1. Which skills are the best to list on a restaurant resume?

Hiring managers skim your skills to determine their pertinence to the job at hand. Create a skills section using bullet points that display about six, but no more than eight, important skill sets relevant to the restaurant industry.

Customer service, verbal communication, and knowledge of restaurant equipment, computers, and procedures are a few skills that employers often like to see on a restaurant resume. However, every job is different. To make your document stand out, study the open position’s job description for industry keywords. If you possess them, incorporate those specific skills in your resume.

2. How do I write a summary statement for a restaurant resume?

Following the examples set in our restaurant resume samples, construct your summary statement with about three succinct sentences using first-person without pronouns. Briefly emphasize accomplishments, work experience, and a few hard and soft skills that directly relate to the job to grab the attention of hiring managers.

Did you boost restaurant sales by suggesting special menu items? Do you have a proven track record of professional and efficient customer service or a history of working very similar jobs to the open position? Include these qualifications in your summary to convince employers to read the rest of your resume.

3. What’s the best way to show I work well in a team on a restaurant resume?

Teamwork is crucial to restaurant positions. Kitchen workers, dishwashers, food servers, and other employees must work together to succeed. However, hiring managers view phrases such as “team player” and “works well within a team” as overused, unoriginal filler words on a resume.

Illuminate communication, listening, multitasking, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills instead. Demonstrate your teamwork capabilities in your work experience section. Describe ways you helped coworkers during busy hours, helped fulfill customer and business needs during stressful situations, or stepped into another role when requested.

4. If I’ve never held a restaurant job before, how do I make a restaurant resume?

If you have no experience in the restaurant industry but experience elsewhere, try to relate your past positions to the job at hand. Find similarities in previous duties to the required responsibilities of the open position. Did you work in retail, warehouses, or landscaping? Illustrate customer service, organization, or working hard in stressful environments.

If you are pursuing a restaurant position as your first official job, emphasize academic and athletic responsibilities and achievements to show you work hard, lead and communicate with team members, and follow instructions well. Draw on unofficial jobs or volunteer positions, such as babysitting or doing yard work, to show responsibility, diligence, and a friendly and positive attitude.

5. What should go in the experience section of my restaurant resume?

Your experience section should describe the top duties and responsibilities of your prior positions. Emphasize relevant work history and demonstrate how work in different industries still pertains to the job at hand.

Point out special accomplishments and use metrics and action words to make this section stronger. Did you earn an Employee of the Quarter award for exceptional customer service? Did you sell the highest number of promotional menu items? Did you consistently lift and carry equipment weighing 50 pounds? Illuminate such information in this section.

|Popular Teacher’s Resume Questions|

  1. Which skills are the best to list on a teacher’s resume?

No matter what kind of industry you are aiming to land a job in, you need to customize your list of skills for the position. Principals, district managers, and human resources departments have a specific set of skills they want to see in potential teacher candidates. Teachers should have an excellent grasp of written and oral communication. They also need to have skills with creating lesson plans, writing curriculum, and managing student behavior. Teachers must also have strong organizational skills to handle the large amount of paperwork and administrative details required for the job, as seen in the teacher’s resume samples.

  1. What should my education section look like in a teacher’s resume?

The education section must have the credentials and academic requirements the school system seeks. Candidates should include all college education, including advanced degrees. They will also need to point out their major, since most college teacher training programs specialize in preparing teachers for specific subjects and levels of teaching. Place your academic credentials in order, starting with the most recent degree you earned. In addition to listing your degrees, the education section can also contain your teaching certifications. Simply list each certification, starting with the most recent. Don’t forget to list details about your certifications, such as subject areas, educational setting, and level.

  1. What’s the best way to include digital skills on a teacher’s resume?

Educators must also demonstrate 21st century skills with digital technology. Teachers can incorporate their ability to use digital tools in the classroom in several ways. It’s wise to put some type of digital technology ability in the skills section of your resume. You can also choose to add information about your digital skills in your work history section as an accomplishment from your previous job. If you have earned a certification in any type of digital teaching skill, you can place this information in your education section.

  1. What should I include about my accomplishments on my teacher’s resume?

To really make yourself stand out, you should add your proudest accomplishments to your resume. Teacher’s can use their work history section to showcase their great teaching accomplishments throughout their career. Accomplishments should include information about how you made an impact on a school, a learner, or a classroom. Metrics are also helpful to have when you write your list of accomplishments. Some examples of impressive accomplishments might encompass the percentage of students who improved under your instruction, the number of students who made progress in a skill during the academic year, or details about positive performance evaluations.

  1. What should I do to make sure my teacher’s resume makes it past an ATS?

Cracking the applicant tracking system can be tough. An ATS is a screening technology that many employers use to help them evaluate resumes based on whether words in a resume match those in the job posting. Some educators don’t make it past the first round of review because they didn’t use words and phrases the hiring managers want to see. One way to get your resume past the ATS is to include important words from the job posting. Make sure you use the exact wording for certain phrases from the education industry as shown in the teacher’s resume samples. In the education field, the ATS may be looking for words related to curriculum, behavior management, digital technology, classroom engagement, and literacy skills.
