Shutterstock is an American stock photography, stock footage, stock music, and editing tools provider headquartered in NYC.

They sell stock photos, so no content should be negative about using stock photos.

Shutterstock has artistic, amazing images to use. Do not refer to them as just “stock photography” as they want to be known more for their beautiful imagery. This makes it easy for anyone to create impressive designs, regardless of the experience or expertise they have.

Shutterstock has an image editing program called Shutterstock Editor. These articles are being written as how-tos when it comes to using the program.

Tone/Voice:

Conversational and informal

Keywords:

  • Use keywords at least twice throughout content.
  • They are more focused on natural content than keywords. If you can’t add a keyword twice without it sounding unnatural, just use it once.

Important Terms:

  • application level toolbar: top menu
  • canvas toolbar: on the left
  • object toolbar: when something in the canvas toolbar is selected
  • Canvas: where the image and design is

Format:

  • ALWAYS refer to the program as Shutterstock Editor or Editor.
  • Shutterstock is only one word with only the first S capitalized.
  • Use contractions, and write as if you are talking to someone about Editor.
  • Keep the content informal and engaging, but still professional.
  • When referring to Editor, called it a design tool or design application.
  • Editor is free, but the assets must be licensed if they are used in a design. To complete and use a picture and design you must download, but there is no charge if you use your own photos.
  • Avoid calling Editor a platform or image editor.
  • NEVER cite competitors.
  • Shutterstock has artistic, amazing images to use. Do not refer to them as just “stock photography” as they want to be known more for their beautiful imagery. This makes it easy for anyone to create impressive designs, regardless of the experience or expertise they have.
  • While Shutterstock offers a huge selection of photos, also highlight that users can choose their own images to upload.
  • Whenever you use statistics, link to them, but DO NOT link to competitor pages. Links are not necessary, but are helpful to have.
  • If a user chooses to design/edit their own assets, they can use Editor for free. So technically it is a free design tool; it’s just that they need to pay to license our imagery
  • Page should go as follows:
    • List keywords at the top of the page.

6 Steps to Using Shutterstock Editor to Add Text to Images

Editing images is simple if you have the right tools at your fingertips. At Shutterstock, we’ve created an editing and design tool that allows you to add text right to your photos and customize the font, position and color, add effects, and more. Shutterstock Editor is an intuitive, user-friendly image design and editing program that makes adding text and formatting text easy. We’ve highlighted some simple aspects of the program to help our customers utilize these features quickly and easily.

Choose Your Text From the Canvas Panel

The canvas is the area where the image resides, taking up most of the right hand side of the screen. To add text to an image, use the canvas toolbar along the left of the screen and click the fifth option down, labeled with a capital A. This will open up the menu to choose the type of text you want to add.

Choose the Type of Text

Now it’s time to add your text boxes to the image. The object toolbar gives you the option of a headline, a subheadline, body text or any mixture of the three. Simply click on your preferred option and it will be added to the image. Type your text in the appropriate box.

Position Your Text

Once you’ve added your text boxes and your message to the image, you may want to move the boxes around. Simply click on the text box and six dots will appear around it. Use these to move your text box around or to make it bigger or smaller. On the application level toolbar across the top of the image, there is a dropdown menu with three uneven lines next to it that gives you the option to choose your own spacing justification within the box or on the entire image itself.

Once your text is in place, you can also change the line height or letter spacing on your text box by clicking the section of the application level toolbar with four lines and an arrow next to it.

Change the Color of Your Text

Change your text to virtually any color in the rainbow by clicking on the black dot on the application level toolbar. You can use preset colors or customize your shade to match your image perfectly.

Change Your Font

Using the application level toolbar, choose the dropdown menu labeled with the font Oswald. Choose from a long list of fonts to find the one that best fits your image and text.

Add a Drop Shadow

Make your text three dimensional when you add a drop shadow to any text box by clicking the shadowed A on the application level toolbar. Blur your shadow, change the horizontal or vertical offset and change the shadow’s color with just a few small clicks of a button.

A Design Application Made Simple

At Shutterstock, we want you to be able to quickly add and edit text to any image, and Shutterstock Editor is a program designed for easy use by any customer. Try it out today and create shareable images and designs that portray a message through photo and text.
