- Example 4 - Mode
The client runs a website that provides information about different types of higher education opportunities.
- Each paragraph corresponds to what we call a “Text Block”. They are between 30 to 50 words long.
- There are three main types of text blocks that the company might order. For instance, on a website page the text is composed of 3 paragraphs: “What is [degree]” + “What is [area of focus]” + “Info on [country name]”.
- Here is an example page of how the three types of text blocks work together on their site: http://www.masterstudies.com/Masters-Degree/Business/Canada/
- The Text Blocks are short snippets of texts assembled together randomly by the Keystone system to create unique long texts on web pages.
- The goal of these Text Blocks is to inform potential higher education students about a specific chosen topic (degree, field of study, country …)
- Text Blocks should answer the question “What is + type of degree/ fields of study” or “More info on + Country/Region” as uniquely as possible. All three text blocks in each batch will be about the same thing. You basically write about the same thing three times in a unique way.
Target Audience: Those who visit the client’s website are looking for information about higher education opportunities available worldwide.
Tone/Voice: More academic than colloquial.
Keywords: The field of study, degree, mode, or country/region listed in column D acts as the keyword. It must be used at least once in each text block, but please don’t overuse it. Do not treat the category type listed in column E as the keyword – that is just informational, telling you the type of keyword you will be using.
Category Type: The category type is listed in column E. This tells you which category you are using.
Word Count: 30-50 words
Instructions: Go to the URL on column C of the spreadsheet. Copy and paste the field of study/degree/country/mode from column D in the search bar. Look at some of the program/degree descriptions that come up to help you write these. If researching a country, search on education in that country. If researching a mode, be sure you connect it to university study. Be sure to be unique with each one. If you don’t have enough information to write all 3, look at the context in Column F.
Context: Column F – this column gives you a context to help you find more information if you need it. For example, for International Cuisine, you can also search on Master Food and Beverage Studies if you didn’t get enough information to write all 3 the first time.
Format:
- Informative and engaging
- Avoid addressing readers as “you”
- Please do not use contractions as this reduces the formality of the writing.
- Avoid absolutes. Using “may instead of will”, “might instead of would” means our client is not making promises – only offering assistance.
- Field of study, country and mode should be degree-neutral so that they can use them across all the sites.
- Make sure the field of study text blocks can be used across all websites for any degree or country. For instance, if your field of study is business, answer the question “What is business?” but do not mention a specific degree. Do not say: “A master in business is…”, but keep it as general as possible, because it will be combined later with any degree. Instead say: “Business studies are composed of finance…”
- If the category is “degree,” please write about the degree listed. Remember these are for international students and your information should be fairly generic.
- Include all 3 text blocks in a single Word document. Put the label in column D above each text block + the ID# from column N above each of the 3 text blocks on your page. SEE EXAMPLES.
Example for “Degree,” answering this question: “What is [degree]?”
If your degree is “master’s” you would write something like this:
A master’s degree gives individuals the opportunity to either further their understanding of a particular question or take off in a completely different direction, using skills gained from a previous undergraduate degree
Example for “Field of study,” answering this question: “What is [field of study]?”
If your area of focus or field of study is “business” write something like this:
Business programs provide students with a foundational understanding of business principles that prepare them for a career in small business, multinational corporations or government organizations.
Example for country/geographic location, providing more information on the country/region.
If your geographic location is “Canada,” write something like this:
For interactive individuals, Canada is a great country in which to pursue a higher education. Almost every ethnic group is represented in Canada, thus it is a multicultural society. Language barrier is not an issue to foreign students as Canada is considered the world leader in language training.
Example for Mode, answering the question “What is [mode]?” or “How can [mode] benefit students?”
If your mode is “Online,” write something like this:
Online studies can really benefit busy people who work full time but want to continue to pursue higher education. The ability to review lessons at one’s own pace at any time of the day or night can benefit students with crazy schedules.
Helpful Hint: Each text block must tie in with students of higher learning. If it simply reads like a job description or travelogue, then it is only doing 1/2 of the job it needs to do!
Be sure that the 3 text blocks for the individual field of study are unique.

Proper terminology/capitalization for degrees:

Master of Degree Name in Program Focus = Master of Arts in Economics
Master of Degree Name = Master of Arts
Master in Program Focus = Master in Economics
Masters in Program Focus = Masters in Economics
A master’s degree (standard capitalization rules apply). No: Master’s Degree
A master’s degree in economics (no capitalization of program focus) No: A Master’s Degree in Economics
A master’s in economics (no capitalization of program focus) No: A Master’s in Economics
Generally, “course” “diploma,” and “certificate” should not be capitalized.
– YES: “A course in professional accounting”
– NO: “A Course in Professional Accounting”
- Please save all 3 text blocks in a single Word document. Save the page as Keystone Text Blocks – [Category name from column D] – [ID#s]. Please use short dashes, not long ones, in saved names.
- Example: Keystone Text Blocks – Commercial Design – 437-439
- Example: Keystone Text Blocks – Diploma – 58-60
- Example: Keystone Text Block – Canada – 202-205
