A Single Data Breach Can Bankrupt Even the Largest Insurance Company

Hardly a week goes by without hearing about another expensive and destructive hacker attack. Data and identity theft are becoming shockingly common; one report found that you’re more likely to have at least 10,000 private electronic records stolen from your business than you are to catch the flu this year. The risks and potential damages are terrifying, but there are things you can do, including hiring a professional recycling company such as TechWaste to handle your private data and electronics disposal.

The Real Costs of Data Theft

Most consumers have little idea of how costly running a business is. The margin of profit can be narrow in the best of times in some cases, and a data breach will be closer to the worst, with experts saying the cost for U.S. companies was $7.91 million on average per instance in 2018. For “mega breaches” the cost can be in the hundreds of millions, far beyond what companies can afford or policies cover. Insurance companies – both major firms and small, local offices – are often juicy targets due to the quantity of records and the very personal information contained in them.

Proactive Steps You Can Take to Protect Your Business

There are some simple things you can do to help prevent data theft. Start by keeping your business and personal information separate to contain any breach. Build awareness of the dangers among everyone with access to computers or smart devices in your business, including the dangers of social engineering. Use strong passwords or passphrases, and strongly discourage the reuse of passwords between accounts. Finally, make sure all your electronic storage devices are destroyed by a responsible and certified data recycler.

What to Do if You’ve Been Breached

The odds are worryingly high that at some point you may experience data theft, so remember that you aren’t alone and there are important things you can do immediately afterwards to mitigate the damage. Ideally, call in a cyber security expert. If you don’t do that, first change every password used in any device that connects to your business. Then determine what was stolen and what was the most sensitive. Contact the authorities and notify any other business that the theft may impact.

TechWaste Will Help Protect Your Data

One way criminals have found to get around online data security is by stealing storage devices thrown away by businesses. All it takes is one USB or hard drive with sensitive data; in the wrong hands, this can be an easy doorway to highly personal information. TechWaste uses military-grade data destruction on all their devices and provides businesses with chain-of-custody proof of permanent destruction, so you can rest a little easier and have ready of good intent if the worst-case happens.

4 Easy Ways to Get Healthy in Time for Travel Season

Whether you like to roam the world or discover new areas a little closer to home, peak traveling season is almost here. To make the most out of your adventurous exploits, it’s important to make sure you’re in good physical condition so you have the ability to hike and explore to your heart’s content. If you’ve relaxed a little too much this past winter, here are four easy things you can do to get fit and healthy in time for travel season.

  1. Eat Healthy

Eating healthier is as easy as replacing sugary treats and drinks with more nutritious options. Increasing your vegetable intake reaching for sweet fruits when you’re craving candies and cakes can go a long way toward increasing your stamina and giving you the sustained energy you need to enjoy your busy travel itinerary.

  1. Exercise Regularly

If you aren’t already doing so, aim for no less than 15 minutes of exercise every day. If you already exercise regularly, consider changing up your routine or adding a little intensity. This will prepare you for hiking, swimming or other exercises you plan to engage in during your summertime travels.

  1. Lose Weight

If you’re carrying around excess pounds, eating healthy and exercising regularly should help you obtain and maintain a healthier weight. However, there are some factors that can make weight loss feel nearly impossible, including genetics, hormone levels and certain medications. If you need a little extra help with your weight loss goals, you may want to consider joining a personal training and wellness program overseen by a nurse practitioner. Newport Medical and Wellness Center offers a personalized weight loss program that has provided clients with great results in areas of weight management, balance and strength.

  1. Get Sufficient Sleep

Thanks to longer days and shorter nights, many people tend to get less sleep in the summer than they do in the winter. If you consistently get insufficient sleep at night, your mental and physical performance will likely suffer and you’ll have a harder time maintaining high levels of energy throughout your vacation. Keep this from happening by maintaining a fairly consistent sleep schedule throughout the summer months. You may feel like you’re missing out on the fun if you don’t attend every late-night party you’re invited to, but remember to treat your body well and give it the time it needs to recuperate.

If you’re ready to make the most out of traveling season, start implementing these healthful practices today. The good news is that you’ll probably start to notice a change in how you look and feel within just a few days!

Newport Med, Newport Tattoo, and Boost Hydration are three “different” businesses/websites but all owned by the same doctor and housed at the same location. Avoid topics tattoo removal or iv therapy for Newport Medical as they aren’t the focus of this business. Newport Medical is 1st a general medicine/family doctor practice, 2nd a med spa with those various services, 3rd a physical therapy center and 4th a place that houses Newport Tattoo Removal and Boost Hydration. Though I do like having these articles as I’ll post them in hopes of widening the audience! Anyhow, lots to dive into for this business.

Newport Med, Newport Tattoo, and Boost Hydration are three “different” businesses/websites but all owned by the same doctor and housed at the same location. Good ideas for topics include lifestyle type articles that sort of relate to tattoo removal. Could also be tattoos – like best tattoo today or current most popular tats or celebrities with great tats, or celebrities getting tattoo removal.

Keep an eye on past articles that have been written. I think we are covered for a while on commuting and general benefits. Those topics have been written about a few times. Okay to get granular on single subjects like the battery one. Also lifestyle pieces that are related, but maybe the bikes aren’t the entire focus like the RVing ones. That could be taken down the road of “helpful articles” to the audience that aren’t specifically bikes, but maybe make a passing mention – maybe like top National Parks to visit (could do one each season, best of the summer, best of the fall)… then especially if those parks could be explored by e-bikes like say Yosemite or Zion. Or best beaches of the US. I don’t want to give too many ideas because the writers probably have some great ones of their own.

All well written and researched. Keep on eye on past articles and what is being written. Since this one is so b2b, lifestyle doesn’t really come into play much. Granular topics are good – like the past one on monitors. Recycling laws are good. Any news items of big entities doing responsible recycling.

LIGHTING / GOVT REGULATION
Steve offered up something from Javi recently involving the scarcity of some lighting products and the fact that additional government regulation in recent years has forced prices to increase and some lighting products to be eliminated.

STEEL PRICES / OIL PRICES
We should also ensure our blog articles are timed with various seasons or current topics.  For example, steel prices are currently being affected by the China Trade War.  This impacts procurement decisions and any projects involving steel.  Also, oil prices are always watched very closely for anything petroleum-based, like asphalt and roofing materials.  In times of low oil prices, we should encourage asphalt work.

SEASONS:
WINTER=ROOF MAINTENANCE
EARLY SPRING=LANDSCAPING/MULCHING
LATE SPRING (MAY/JUNE/JULY)=ASPHALT
Some of our work has seasons – – the most obvious one you’ve seen is the annual roof inspection and maintenance that is done before the winter rains begin.
