Screenland 5K

What

Culver City is the “Heart of Screenland” and what better place to have a 5K run than along the historic city streets where some of the most famous MGM movies were filmed. Racers begin under the rainbow on Culver Blvd. at Main Street. One of the first things racers will pass is the Culver Hotel, which hosted the Munchkins while “The Wizard of Oz” was being filmed. The course winds through Culver City, taking you past the Metro Expo Line, the Sony Pictures Studio Tour and Veterans Memorial Park. The race ends on the Red Carpet at Media Park, where you’ll find fellow runners, your family and paparazzi.

The 5K begins at 9:00 am, but registration opens at 7:00 am. To avoid the rush on race morning, you will also be able to pick up your bib on Saturday, March 3 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at Media Park. At 10:00 am, there will be a Munchkin Dash for kids 12 and under in front of the Culver Hotel.

There will also be a costume contest, so you’ll want to come dressed as your favorite movie character. It will make the race more fun and you’ll get some great pictures to take home as memories.

Before and after the race, enjoy the Screenland Expo, a showcase of local shops and vendors with free food samples and lots of information about things in the community. The expo is at Media Park, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am on race day.

All proceeds from the race benefit Culver City Education Foundation, which is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to supporting the Culver City schools and students by enhancing learning opportunities. The Foundation buys books, technology and instruments, plus provides support specifically for each school based on the needs of the students.

What Else?

While you’re in the neighborhood, take a pit stop at the Star Eco Station, an environmental science museum and exotic wildlife rescue facility. The race ends at noon, so you’ll have plenty of time to get to the Eco Station for a public tour. You’ll see over 200 rescued animals, but more importantly, it will be an ecological and environmental education that you won’t soon forget.

Dogs will not be allowed on the course. Strollers are allowed but recommended to stage at the rear of the course. There will be one water station along the course, as well as plenty of entertainment. After all, it is the movie capital of the world.
